The only golf course in northern continental Greece as of 2023, Porto Carras was established in the early 1970s as a part of the vision of its namesake initial owner, Giannis Karras. Along the years and ownership changes, the course has been refurbished and reintroduced as the Olive Grove in post-2000 years, a quite befitting title as it is surrounded by hundreds of olive trees, let alone a vineyard, pine trees and three big lakes.
The reseeding with Paspalum that is a grass type with increased tolerance to high temperatures and proximity to saltwater has improved the playability of the course especially during the warm summer months.
